The Wisdom of Solomon is the 60th Phantom daily story, written by Lee Falk and illustrated by Wilson McCoy. First appearing in the newspaper strips during the 1950s, the story reflects Falk’s enduring belief that the Phantom is far more than a jungle fighter. The story is inspired by the famous biblical account of King Solomon, whose legendary judgment settled a dispute between two women over the same child. Over the centuries, the phrase “the wisdom of Solomon” has become synonymous with fairness and wise decision-making. The Phantom has always been portrayed as a just and thoughtful guardian of the jungle. A man who understands human nature and uses that knowledge to uncover the truth.
Years later, the theme would surface again in the Italian Phantom comics. In 1968, the Italian series L’Uomo Mascherato published issue #91, featuring Solomon’s Judgment, produced by the Fratelli Spada studio with artwork by Germano Ferri. Ferri began working for the Spada brothers in 1962 and illustrated around forty Phantom adventures. Jeremy MacPherson’s cover delivers a beautiful homage!
In a new Australian story, Simulacra, writer Julie Ditrich delivers a gripping jungle adventure that blends classic Phantom heroics with a touch of cosmic horror reminiscent of the mythos of Cthulhu. Set against the haunting beauty of Queensland’s Daintree Rainforest. The illustrative gift of Wendell Cavalcanti serves only to elevate this intriguing tale! As the Ghost Who Walks searches for a missing photographer whose fascination with natural “simulacra” leads to misadventure!
