The Phantom is frantically attempting to find out what is going on and why. This episode brings us all closer to an understanding of just how evil and diabolical the conspirators’ plans are! Kari Leppanen’s illustration of this story is as we have come to expect, richly detailed, darkly brooding and suspenseful!
I receive quite a few artist’s proposals here at Frew. Most of whom are offering to draw new stories or would like to submit some cover art for consideration. In truth not many of them get over the line, but every now and then I see something unique and special. When that happens my brain cries out a loud yes! If not now, then we may have use of your service at some time in the future! Such was the case with Shane Foley of Bundaberg in Queensland who approached Frew in 2015 with the offer of enhancements to our cover quality. He included some sketches of possible improvements to already existing covers and I took note and placed his work and correspondence carefully in a file for future reference.
With the recent advent of our Signature Series, where we have 100 copies of each comic signed by the artist, more diversification and a broadening of our available cover artists both local and international became an imperative. It seems only fitting since his interest in comic art was spawned through a chance encounter with a Phantom comic, that Shane’s work would eventually adorn a Frew cover. He has been published in other Australian comics such as Southern Aurora Presents, Dark Nebula and Australian War Stories as well as The Saga of Shakah-Rune in Krash Magazine. Shane has been knocking on the door at Frew since long before my time here. It is with great pleasure that the Frew Crew are able to open that door and introduce his art to you!
