In our endeavours to find bags and boards for our ongoing Signature Series, we contacted a Chinese comic supplies manufacturer. This is the same company that make a line of bags and boards for a well-known brand of comic supplies that are already sold in comic shops throughout the world. So we decided to get the same bags and boards manufactured for Frew, in huge quantities and have them shipped to Australia.

 So here’s what we have:

  • a polypro bag for regular Phantom comics. These are sold as ‘Golden Age’ bags in comics shops, but are the perfect size for all Phantom regular, Special and Annual sized issues. They have an resealable adhesive strip on the back of the flap.
  • Backing boards for Phantom regular and Special issues. These are the same as the ‘Golden Age’ backing boards that you now see in comic shops.
  • Backing boards for Phantom Annuals. These are the same as the ’Silver Age’ backing boards that you now see in comic shops. These need to be slightly smaller than the ‘Golden Age’ boards as the thickness of the Annuals fills out the bag to the point where the ‘Golden Age’ board won’t fit. The ‘Silver Age’ board fits snugly.

‘Polypro’ is short for polypropylene, which is plastic used for archival purposes and is the industry standard for most comic bags. Mylar is another plastic type used for archival purposes and offers a longer life, but is prohibitively expensive. Polypro is the most popular.
