  • "The Brotherhood of the Ring" - story by Claes Reimerthi and art by Heiner Bade.

A little detective work for you in this issue! The Brotherhood of The Ring adventure heavily features the importance of a group of cult members wearing a copy of The Phantom’s Skull Ring as their secret identification.

Nowhere in the story does Claes Reimerthi's script explain how and why the famous ring was selected and The Phantom is naturally puzzled. The answer is to be found in two earlier Phantom stories which I hope most of you have on file. Go back to 2005 and Frew No 1433 King of Thieves—Part One and 2006 for Frew No 1439 Sentenced to Hang.

Each story follows the sad fortunes of young army officer Jonathon Wild who is wrongly convicted of robbery and who ultimately, is saved by The Phantom. The Phantom / Mr Walker and his Skull Ring makes a special impact (no pun intended!) on a group of plotters and therein lies the connection with the dastardly Lord Caruthers who features so strongly in The Brotherhood of The Ring
