John was arguably Australia’s most famous comic artist.\u003cbr\u003eHe is probably best known for his Air hawk newspaper strip. John’s final\u003cbr\u003eyears were spent working for American publisher, Valiant from his home\u003cbr\u003ein California. This is the second incarnation of Catman to be seen in\u003cbr\u003ethe pages of a Frew comic. The character, originally licensed from US\u003cbr\u003epublisher, Continental Magazines, debuted in Frew’s Super Yank Comics\u003cbr\u003e#2, in 1951, but John gave him a makeover, when Catman received his\u003cbr\u003eown title later that decade.\u003cbr\u003eThen we have \u003cstrong\u003eSir Falcon #1 from 1954.\u003c\/strong\u003e We got a glimpse of Sir Falcon\u003cbr\u003elast issue with a new, short story from Australian artist\/writer, Shane\u003cbr\u003eFoley. Shane will return next issue with a story that picks up from that\u003cbr\u003eone, and actually also works as a sequel to the famous Phantom tale,\u003cbr\u003eAlexander’s Diamond Cup.\u003cbr\u003eNext up is the \u003cstrong\u003eShadow #2, by Jeff Wilkinson.\u003c\/strong\u003e First published in 1950.\u003cbr\u003eA real reflection of the times, the Shadow – part detective, part secret\u003cbr\u003eagent, part man-of-mystery, can best be described as the Saint with a\u003cbr\u003elatex mask. And while on the subject of the Shadow, We do have a brand\u003cbr\u003enew 22-page story coming up in a future issue of Giant Size Phantom, in\u003cbr\u003ewhich the Shadow will be teaming up with someone well-known to you\u003cbr\u003eall. I’ll use the word ‘eponymous’.
