In Issue No 1893, I gave some history on this wonderful American artist, Don Newton and I mentioned that I would be bringing out his other story that hadn’t been published in Australia, “The Phantom of 1776,” so here it is. The interesting thing in this story to note is that Don didn’t just draw this one, he actually wrote the story as well. I found his writing to be, at times, quite charmingly lyrical and highly descriptive whilst also affectively evocative of the characters he illustrated throughout!
