We continue The Great Deception in this issue!
The background to the story is historically accurate, but the purists will quickly spot that writer Claes Reimerthi has added a little to Lee Falk’s official Phantom history!
According to Claes, it was the first Phantom and his son Chris, who decided to expand the original oath the first Phantom swore on the skull of his father’s murderer.
Claes has it that the original oath was ‘changed’ to include mention of the first Phantom’s descendants as future fighters against piracy, greed and evil.
In Lee Falk’s original 1936 Phantom adventure, The Singh Brotherhood, the man who was to become the first Phantom, swore the following oath….‛to fight piracy, greed, cruelty and injustice and to pledge that his sons and their sons would follow him….’
The man who swore this oath was yet to become The Phantom and to design and make the famous uniform ...
