  • "The Mines of Death" - story by Sverre Arnes and art by Helner Bade.
Cover art by Antonio Lemos.

The story in this issue, while appearing for the first time in a Frew edition, actually dates back to the end of 1990, when it was published in Scandinavia.

The Mines of Death, written by Sverre Arnes and illustrated by Heiner Bade, is thus almost 19 years old, but still packs a mighty punch!

Arnes weaves a powerful scenario of ruthless mining businessmen and their roughneck lieutenants hoodwinking a Government and exploiting workers—the perfect setting for The Phantom to enter and sort out the mess.

He does it the hard way….getting himself a job as a mine worker, an ordinary man, to investigate the slave labour conditions and then, as The Phantom, wreaking swift and fearful retribution.

It’s hard not to start cheering The Phantom as he sets about punishing the bosses and their henchmen!

Covers for this issue have been rendered by Antonio Lemos.
